sipping coffee on the porch
coaxing the sun to rise
waving at stirring neighbors
wiping sleep from their eyes.
leaning back in the yard chair
under the colorful burst of day
joining old friends like the crow
and maybe even the blue jay.
the cat's at the screen door
old mutt is laying by the step
hyacinths slowly yawning
as if they never slept.
Sipping coffee on the porch
a daily visit to fire up the soul
and help to shuffle in the day
while making life more bold.
