Morning light finds me
stumbling to start the brew
to jolt the senses awake
the same way it does you.
Lifting my huge mug
to taste the first of light.
Slurp, taking a chug
ready to face the day's might.
These few precious moments
are mine to cherished each day
before the news media
can start ruination of my day.
Let's leave Iraq in the paper
starting with another headline
Bass Pro Shop has a sale
on rods, reels and fishing line.
Oops, a dribble down my lips
Ginger nudges for food in her dish
the cats are a meowing duet but
my mind is locked on the fish.
Just one refill before starting off
getting emerged too deep in the fray.
Can't possibly get going without coffee
to bring on my electric jolt each day.
