The River Calls Me

The River Calls Me

I can hear the river callin me, softly.

I can already hear the reeds sing
multi-hues rustling in the breeze.
Hearing the water lap the rocks
harmonizing with the leaves.

Can feel the coolness in the air
swarming along the shore
as it gently touches my  face
I'll walk to its tunes and score.

I can inhale tomorrows breath
exhale sorrows not yet seen.
Intimacies shared with the river
makes her a special queen

I can drop off the debris
which keep my shoulders bent
and actually straighten up, fully
for the time there I've spent.

Can allow tears to freely fall
the breeze drying them as I go.
So easily talk to the heavens
about everything I know.

She whispers seductively
like so many lovers do.
"Lover, I am here, always
will never forsake you.

I hear the river callin me, gently
I must go

Dear Spencer , This is simply beautiful ...it is amazing how God has provided special places for each of us to turn when we need to experience His abundance...I have you and your family in my prayers ...I know I have missed you..Love, Courtenay

Spencer - there is always a place where we go to be alone with ourselves.  I can think of nothing more peaceful than a river, where I have spent many hours in solitude.  Lovely poem.

This is very nice, intertwining the river with a lover. Your poetry reminds me of Rod McCuen's. :)

The river banks, you have captured them in remarkable words. The river is my sanctuary..........

HI Spencer! Nice poem and glad you added a photo!~ When you go to the river make sure you take your floatation devices with you and wade in the water barefoot with your jeans rolled up.  Have a wonderful time there ~

I taste the sweet river

calling with chilled softness

feel its whisper on my back

reaching down my spine

pulling me back again

to the depths of you

reeds wear the the scent

of next year's fall

and the albatross seems

lost evermore

Like you, sometimes poetry begs for more poetry.

I LOVE this one. Excelllent and needs to be published! I used to live by the Sacramento River and I miss it, although not much else abt. SAC...Do you live near one now? I live near more like brooks or creeks...I am a total water person--the more the better. guess that's why I like the ocean best! Take good care. Blessings, Deb
