she gave me back the blues
and wrought the worst of pain;
none of it thought I could use.
Said she really didn't mean
to cause us to fall so low
but tamed that roaring spirit
'fo she finally let me go.
I sold my soul to her
in return I got the blues
but I learned ...some win
as others tend to lose.
But as I recall those days
way, way back in the past
can't help but be thankful
the travesty failed to last.
I sold my soul to her
my receipt was the blues.
She took most of what we had
left me barely with my tools.
I used to be ashamed
to tell of what I know.
I gave her my all and all
'fo she tossed me to and fro.
But now,I am brave and free
and got lessons that I can use.
I keep this receipt handy, to tell all,
I bought and paid for the blues.
